The U.S.S. Lexington, CV-2, had turboelectric drive.  During the winter of 1929/1930, when hydro power in the Northwest "dried up" because of the lack of rain/snow, she was moored in Tacoma and provided electricity to the city for several weeks.  [Thanks to friend, Bill Lee, for this interesting tidbit.]
